Die: When we went to Universal Studios Orlando on our last tour, I went with Shinya to the roller coasters. I wanted to ride one and since he was like “Uh, ok…”, I said “Let’s go! Are you scared?”. He insisted that he wasn’t and so we went. I put my arm tight around his shoulders [since he…
Shoxx Vol. 68
Interviewer: So you both met Toshiya-kun in your previous band.
Kaoru: Yes, I think when we went on tour in our previous band we met him.
Die: No, it was before when we were going to do a live in the same live house as Toshiya and he came to greet us. The first time I saw their live I didn't know his name, but my impression of him was that he was the guy who had blue hair and was pretty thin.
Kaoru: He was tall, pretty thin and his hair was blue. When he came to do the greeting, he didn't have any make up on. And because his face looks fairly childish/young I got the impression that he was young. We didn't talk to him then, but when I went to Nagano and saw his live, I got a strong impression that his playing was a lot to do with performance. Then after the live, our band and Toshiya's band went to do fireworks. I didn't really want to do fireworks (laugh).
Die: I was sleeping in the car then.
Kaoru: So when me and Kyo-kun were gazing into space because we didn't want to do fireworks Toshiya came to talk to us. This was the first time I had ever spoken to him and he started questioning us like "Is your band doing well?". He wanted to get out of the band he was in currently and start his own. But he kept asking quite deep and personal questions such as "Are your band members close?". His hair was still in a ponytail as it was in the live and he looked innocent and cute, but I remember thinking that he wasn't all he looked (laugh).
Die: I have no recollection at that time, but once when he came to Tokyo to do a live we met in a café. I talked to him for the first time and I got the feeling that he was a sensible person who could speak normally.
Kaoru: When you talk to him, he does seem quite normal. But because he's so tall he stands out a lot. He once came to see my previous band's live in Osaka. We told him not to stand out much because we had already started discussing making a new band called Dir en grey, but because he is tall, his head stuck out above the crowd (laugh). At that time his hair was blue and mine was also so he was often mistaken to be me (laugh). And then the fans starting asking why Toshiya from Nagano had come and then a rumor started that we were going to play together (laugh). I wanted him to watch our live without standing out.
The earliest memory you have.
Kyo: I don't remember which one was the earliest memory. I have a faint memory of the house I used to live in when I was 2.
Kaoru: When I was around 2, I went out of the house and got lost. Apparently my parents thought it I was kidnapped and the police got involved and it was a great mess (laugh)! After walking about 2 km after going out the house by myself, I was found by a woman who lived next to us. I don't actually remember that. What I remember is that I was put on the luggage platform of the bicycle of the neighbour and taken home where there were loads of people who exclaimed 'wow, he's returned!' and lots of excitement (laugh).
Die: When I was in nursery, my parents used to go to work before me so I went out and returned to the house by myself. I remember feeling very lonely.
Toshiya: I remember being taken to a bazaar by my mother's side uncle and aunt and getting lost. I was still young so everyone looked so big and I was very frightened. I was worried that my uncle and aunt would not find me. When I was taken home, I was very glad because they bought me a model (laugh).
Shinya: The sink. I was put in the sink by my mother when I was to be bathed. That was probably when I was 1 year old. But I kept remembering it when I was 2 and 3 years old so I have never forgotton it.
Interviewer: What reminds you of it?
Shinya: For example, when I catch a glimpse of the sink and such….
Interviewer: Do you think: hey wait a minute, I've seen this roundness before?? (laugh)
Shinya: Yes (laugh). But when I told my parents they were like - are you sure it was the sink and not the tub? I can't tell at the present! (laugh).
